Name: ALEX

(Click on picture for more photos)

Male

Black & White
Age: 1 year old.
Size: Medium

ALEX is a VERY flashy little guy with beautiful movement when running and playing. Would enjoy jogging, hiking or even agility and obedience once he learns how and gets his confidence up. He is very timid and shy with situations and people he doesn't know but he bonds very quickly and loves his people. Busy little boy outdoors but settles nicely indoors. Has not had an accident in the house and sleeps quietly in his crate all night. Wants to be with his family so when we're inside, he's inside. When we're outside, he's outside. He is not the kind of dog to be left alone for very long without another dog or people. Was very good about his bath and toe nail clipping. Loves the attention of getting brushed. Loves his NylaBones and has not chewed on anything that is not his. Not aggressive at all when we take food or toys away from him. Learns quickly where he belongs in the pecking order with other dogs and respects their space. Enjoys play with other dogs and wants to play with his people too but has never been shown how so we're working on that. Wonderful on the leash with no tugging. He is just a joy to have around.  Alex is being fostered east of Auburn.
If you'd like to meet Alex, you must have an approved application on file.  To learn more about him, please email bcsaver@aol.com.

Name: TOBY

(Click on picture for more photos)

Male

Black & White
Age: 1.5 years old.
Size: Medium

TOBY is a 1.5-year-old Border Collie mix boy.  He is a happy, on-the-go boy.  He is on the small size, weighing about 35 pounds.  He is a smart fellow, learning things quickly, & he loves people.  He can posture a bit with dogs when he first meets them, getting up on his toes & puffing up.  But he responds well to redirection.  He is crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in his foster home.  Toby would be a wonderful, active companion dog for someone who likes to run, take long walks, play Frisbee or ball, etc.  He will need things to do to bring out the best he can be.  He is a delightful dog!  He does like to chase cats so a home without them would be best!

UPDATE:  Toby has settled in to his foster home in the best ways: he LOVES & gets along
well with the other dogs, & he's even good with the little boy who
lives in his foster home.  At first, he jumped up a lot, but he has
learned to greet people without doing that, so his foster mom thinks
he'd do well with children.  He is coming along nicely with his
training, learning to walk on a leash, sit, down, & stay.  All in all,
Toby is blossoming into a wonderful dog.

If you'd like to meet Toby, you must have an approved application on file.  To learn more about him, contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

Name: APRIL

(Click on picture for more photos)

April is now being sponsored as a tribute to "Scout", from Jody and Kent Morales

Female

Black & White
Age: 2 years old.
Size: Medium

APRIL is a 2-year-old Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog girl.   She is utterly silly, bounding everywhere on her way to wherever she is going.  April is sweet & loving with everyone she meets.  She's a happy-go-lucky girl.  April is crate-trained, and she hasn’t had an accident in her foster home.  April has had some obedience training & even some agility training with a volunteer who takes her to class.  She is a blast to train  because she has such a good-natured enthusiasm.  She is a great size,  about 40#, & she's very athletic.  April is keen about the chickens  in her foster home, so she'd probably do better in a home without  chickens or other small animals like cats--she hasn't been cat-tested  formally.   April can also be reactive to some dogs, but responds well to redirection.  She might do best as an only-dog, or in a home where her family is experienced in establishing good pack relations.  Of course, if there is another dog in the home, April & that dog should meet.

If you'd like to meet April, you must have an approved application on file.  To learn more about this darling, silly girl, contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

Name: STAR

(Click on picture for additional photos)

Female

White and Black
Age: 2.5 Years old.
Size: Medium

Star is a 2.5-year-old little girl, weighing about 35 pounds.  She recently had her third litter of pups, so she's a little thinner than she should be.  Star has lived on an 80-acre ranch for most of her life, & didn't get a lot of socialization with people.  She ran with the other Border Collies and had pups whenever she came into season.  Despite not having a real job or a lot of human bonding, she is the sweetest, gentlest dog.  When she was having her photo taken, she kept going over to her photographer & gently nuzzling her for cookies & to receive attention.  While her photographer was reviewing photos on the computer, Star was curled up in her foster mom's lap.  Star gets along well with other dogs & hasn't bothered the cat in her foster home.  She likes people a lot.  But because she hasn't had a lot of training & socialization, we'd like her to be someone's darling, preferably not having to share her humans or only with one other dog & where her humans can spend lots of time with her.  She is quiet as a mouse, crates beautifully, & learns quickly.  She is a soft, gentle dog, who will benefit from training & further socialization to be the best dog she can be.

If you'd like to visit with STAR you must have an approved application on file. To learn more about her, please contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

Name: BELLE

(Click on photo for additional pictures)

Female

Black & White
Age: Almost 3 Years old.
Size: Medium

Belle will be 3 years old on April 1, 2010 but she is definitely nobody's fool.  She is a bright , sweet, happy BC that needs a loving home.  She learns quickly and wants to please.  She is energetic and loves to run full out but does not have that intensity that some of our BC friends exhibit.  She loves to explore but comes running with one call or come signal.  Unlike our other BC's she loves to play fetch with balls which we found out by accident when she brought us a ball to throw.  She is comfortable indoors or out but truly loves her crate and seems secure when in it.  She has very basic commands mastered and would do well with someone who wanted to spend time teaching her.  Her personality is sweet and gentle but not submissive.  She loves to play with other dogs but can be quiet and gentle when around people.  She travels well but does not stress out when left behind. She has an exceptionally soft coat that we discovered after what was probably her first  ever bath.  Belle is very well mannered and never has house accidents or chewing problems.  Fostering her has been a real joy.  Belle is being fostered near Ukiah.

If you'd like to meet BELLE, you must have an approved application.  For more information on BELLE, please email bellefosterbc@gmail.com

Name: CLAIRE

Female

Tri-Color
Age: 2-3 Years old.
Size: Medium

CLAIRE is a 2-to-3-year old darling. She is soft & sweet, going over
on her back & leaning up against her foster mom's leg. She is a
little wiggler, about 35 pounds with a gorgeous tri-colored coat.
When Claire's owner died, Claire & another Border Collie were simply
tied up on the property & neighbors came by & fed them & gave them
water. They had no shelter during six of the coldest, wettest weeks
of winter. Happily, someone brought their plight to our attention, &
these two dear ones came to us. We were all so happy when they spent
their first night inside, safe & warm & fed properly! Claire loves
people & other dogs. She doesn't seem to have had much training, but
she has a nice deserve to please & picks things up quickly. She is
crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in her foster home. She is
quiet as a mouse, never barking. Claire would love to be someone's
special girl, learning fun things & becoming the best dog she can be.

If you'd like to visit with CLAIRE you must have an approved application on file. To learn more about her, please contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

Name: BAILEY

Male

Black & White
Age: 3 Years old.
Size: Medium

BAILEY is a 3-year-old smooth-coated boy who hails from Nevada, a ranch area. His tail is docked, & a lot of ranchers dock the tails. At the risk of insulting him, I have to say his tail wiggle is adorable!! He is strong & athletic & a lot of fun. He knows some basic commands like "sit" & "down." He is intense in his play & seems to have some drive, so he might be a good candidate for herding or other dog work or sports. Bailey needs some work on the leash as he doesn't seem to know not to pull, but we're working on that. He loves to travel in his foster mom's van, so he'd be a fun dog to talk places. He's be a great companion for someone who likes to run or go camping. Bailey would benefit from training to be the best dog he can be. He is crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in his foster mom's house.

If you'd like to visit with BAILEY you must have an approved application on file. To learn more about him, please contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

Name: JAKE

(Click on picture for more photos)

Male

Black & White
Age: 6 Years old.
Size: Medium

JAKE is a 6-year-old goofball.  He is Elwood's brother & seems to get some of his social confidence from Elwood, so we're interested in placing the brothers separately.  We'd like Jake to enjoy life on his own, learning new things & hanging out with his human.  Jake is a soft dog, but he's strong & athletic.  He likes to lean into his foster mom whether she's standing still or walking, staying close.  He is a sweet boy who will benefit from training to be the best dog he can be & to grow in confidence.  He wants to bond with someone so much.  Jake is neutered, current on vaccinations, & on heartworm preventative.

If you'd like to visit with JAKE you must have an approved application on file. To learn more about him, please contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

Name: KATIE

(Click on picture for more photos)

"Katie is now being sponsored in memory of Gareth and Gavin"

Female

Black & White
Age: 5 Years old.
Size: Medium

KATIE is a quiet, medium-energy level girl.  She lived her entire 5-years outside until she came to rescue.  Her owner didn't have a fence & so Katie wandered.  Her wandering days are over.  She is happy to be at her foster home.  She follows her foster mom around the house & yard.  Katie is a quiet dog.  She is crate-trained & even though she had never lived inside prior to coming into rescue, she has not had an accident.  Katie is overweight & could benefit from daily walks, so if you'd like a walking partner, she might be your new best friend.

If you'd like to visit with KATIE you must have an approved application on file. To learn more about her, please contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

Name: BOLT

(Click on picture for more photos)

Female

Black & White
Age: 10 months old.
Size: Medium

BOLT is a 10-month-old Border Collie mix girl.  She is such a sweet & soft little girl.  Playful & silly, but worried about doing the right thing.  She is on the small side, weighing about 35 pounds.  Bolt is a quiet girl, & even though she hasn't had a lot of training, she is eager to please & tries hard to do what she's asked to do.  She gets along well with the dogs in her foster home, & she has not bothered the cat.  She is very active, as is typical of the breed, but she doesn't have the typical BC obsessiveness.  She is crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in her foster home.  She likes to go places & rides nicely in her crate.  This little girl longs to be someone's special companion.  She would probably even be okay in a home with children, as long as the children were okay with her enthusiasm.

If you'd like to visit with BOLT you must have an approved application on file. To learn more about her, please contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

Name: FRANK

(Click on picture for more photos)

Frank is now being sponsored "on behalf and in memory of little Ginger, my constant companion for 12 years".

Male

Black & White
Age: 2 years old.
Size: Medium

FRANK is a 2-year-old, sweetie of a Border Collie who needs a Border Collie-experienced home. He is a black and white, rough coat, neutered male. He has a very soft coat and he loves to be petted (let us reiterate, loves to be petted!). He is medium-to-large size, weighing about 60 lbs. FRANK has been a well-behaved guest at his foster home. He is housebroken and has not exhibited destructive behavior such as digging in the yard. He crates nicely at night as well as in the car. He loves to go on walks and does well on a lead. He also likes the water and will follow the other dogs for a swim, though his dog paddle is a bit splashy and rather comical!

FRANK gets along well with the other dogs at his foster home. He likes to play and romp with the pack though his normal casual demeanor often gets pushed aside and he gets excited when the other dogs run about (i.e., his "BC" gets activated). Inside, the smaller dogs can climb over him and "muscle" their way in to get petted and he has hardly any reaction to them other than to reposition himself for continued petting. He has encountered Lucy Cat a few times and has chased after her, but once she reaches high ground he loses interest in her.

FRANK can be stubborn and we’re working on our being strong pack leaders with him to overcome it. We’re working on little, but routine things such as having him wait at the door to be called in or out and not allowed to eat until called. He’s showing progress already. Even with his expected potential and otherwise good behavior, we feel he should only be adopted by someone with dog handling experience. Someone who enjoys training and will take it seriously. Frank needs work on tolerating strangers. He alarm barks at strangers, especially if they come on “his” property or into “his” house. He demonstrates territorial herding behavior and needs (1) a home where his need to be territorial is limited and (2) where someone will work with him consistently to let him know he doesn’t need to take on this role. He would not be a good candidate for a home where strangers or frequent guests are coming and going, at least until he learns that it’s not his job to protect his surroundings and pack.

We have taken him to parks, agility events, well-populated walking trails, etc., and he has been delightful and well-mannered. In so many ways, FRANK is a typical young BC with curiosity and need for daily activity. He’s energetic and playful, but not obsessive/compulsive and has a nice way of settling down. We believe FRANK will benefit from additional personal attention and training to make someone a great companion dog. He is current on his vaccinations and on heartworm preventative.

If you'd like to visit with FRANK you must have an approved application on file. To learn more about him, please contact Jeanne at bellestarr@lotsadogs.org.

ELWOOD is a 6-year-old sweetheart.  He is such a gorgeous dog, & he has the kindest disposition.  He is friendly & wants to please.  We believe Elwood was an outdoor dog with his brother Jake before they came into rescue.  Their coats were dry with lots of undercoat.  But they like to be indoor/outdoor dogs now!  He is not a barker.  He seems to have been taught some basics.  Elwood is crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in his foster home.  He would love to be someone's pal dog, learning new things, going for walks, & getting to be with his new people.  Elwood is neutered, current on vaccinations, & on heartworm preventative.

Name: DASH

(Click on picture for more photos)

"Dash is being sponsored in memory of our Jesi James.  The Lockwoods, Caldwell, ID"

Male

Basic Black
Age: 1 year old.
Size: Medium

DASH is another dog with a very sad story.  Dash originally came into rescue when he was 4 days old.  He came to us with his Border Collie mom and his 5 brothers and sisters.  He was one of the "Hat Litter" and we named him Bowler.  Obviously, the father of this litter was either Lab or Shepherd, and dash didn't get much of the Border Collie coloring and he weighs about 58 pounds.  Two weeks before Dash's first birthday, his family decided he was too big for their family.  Instead of honoring their contract with our rescue and returning Dash to us, they put him in their local animal shelter.  Since Dash had never been in a situation like this, he did like most sensitive Border Collies when they are locked up, he went into shelter shock.  Luckily, one of the shelter workers found out Dash had come from our rescue and she contacted us right away.  Dash was back in rescue by the next morning but the damage had already been done.  He was having a very hard time trusting people and it has taken several weeks for him to finally come around.  Now he's a wonderful dog and quite a clown!  He's very happy and is learning quickly.  His previous family didn't do much training with him so the only thing he know right now is sit and down.  He's going to need basic obedience classes to learn not to pull on leash and to come when called.  Dash is great with other dogs and is crate trained.  He rides well in the car and he has learned to catch treats.  He likes to play with balls and toys.  Dash was raised with children but since he is a big boy, he should only go to homes with children over the age of 12.

To visit with DASH, you must have an approved application on file.  To learn more about him or to inquire about adopting, please email bcrncinc@aol.com
