SHELBY  FEMALE - TRI-COLOR -  4 MONTHS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

SHELBY is a very friendly 4 month old female tri-color Border Collie.  She loves people, dogs and she would love to play with the cats although they aren't too sure of her yet!!!  She loves to bounce around and play with her toys.

SHELBY is 18 pounds and much smaller than she looks in her photos.  She will most likely mature at around 35 pounds and will have a medium to long coat.

SHELBY is learning to walk on a leash, she uses a doggy door, and we're starting to crate train her.

She is vaccinated, spayed and will be ready for her new home on May 18th.  We are now reviewing applications for Shelby.  If you would like to be considered for her, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

SHELBY is being fostered in Morgan Hill.

GEORGE  MALE - BLACK & WHITE - 2 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

                   SAY HOWDY TO GEORGE!

GEORGE is a 2 year old, sweetie of a Border Collie. He is a black and white rough coat, neutered male. GEORGE  loves to be petted (let us reiterate, he loves to be petted!).  GEORGE  met our 7 other BC's with a tip of his hat and a "Howdy Ma'am" to the ladies.  Well, practically, he was every inch the gentleman as he passed the sniff test of 7 curious dogs.  Our male dog is not too keen on George but that's not Georges fault!

He is a good sized dog, weighing in at 65 lbs. GEORGE has been a well behaved guest at his foster home. He is housebroken and has not exhibited destructive behavior such as digging in the yard. So far no barking and we are keeping an ear open.  He crates nicely at night as well as in the car. He loves to go on walks (and drives) and although he does pull on a lead (we are working on that) he is learning not to pull anymore.

GEORGE gets along well with the other dogs at his foster home, particularly the females. He likes to play and romp with the pack or explore on his own but always comes when called. Inside, the smaller dogs can climb over him and "muscle" their way in to get petted and he has hardly any reaction to them other than to reposition himself for continued petting. He has encountered Lucy Cat a few times and shows little interest in her.

GEORGE can be a bit stubborn and we’re working on our being strong pack leaders with him.   We’re working on routine things such as having him wait at the door and gates to be called in or out and not allowed to eat until called.   He’s progressing very well.  Even with this progress, we feel he should be adopted by someone with dog handling experience, someone who enjoys training and will be consistent with their efforts.     He is a young, strong dog so the adoptive family should be prepared to continue to work with him on recall and obedience as we are working with him now. He does sit nicely and is not food aggressive.

All in all, GEORGE is a typical young BC with curiosity and need for daily activity. He’s energetic and playful, but not obsessive/compulsive. We believe GEORGE will benefit from additional personal attention and training to make someone a great companion dog. He is current on his vaccinations and on heartworm preventative, micro chipped and ready to go home!

To meet GEORGE, you must have an  approved application on file.  To learn more about him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

GEORGE is being fostered in Orland, CA

SIERRA  FEMALE -WHITE & BLACK -  1 1/2 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

SIERRA is a happy, playful young female who came into rescue with her litter of puppies.  All of her pups have found their new homes and now it's time for Sierra to find a family.

Sierra is just a big puppy herself.  She wants to play all the time and is great with the other dogs in her foster home.  She is crate trained and hasn't had an accident in her foster home or her crate.

Sierra weighs 50 pounds and has a short easy care coat.  We're guessing that she is mixed with Lab.  She is spayed, fully vaccinated and ready for her new home.  Sierra is also microchipped.

To learn more about SIERRA, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

LIMERICK  MALE - BLACK & WHITE -  2 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

MEET LIMERICK!

LIMERICK is a beautiful, 2 year old, black & white sweetie of a Border Collie. He is a rough coat, neutered male weighing about 35 lbs. LIMERICK is not at all shy about meeting people, in fact everyone he meets is his instant friend. He is fun boy who loves to play. He is housebroken and has not exhibited destructive behavior such as chewing, digging in the yard. He may alarm bark at strangers that pass by, but has shown himself to be friendly once the person is made known to him.

LIMERICK loves to be in your company. He has a nice way of being close by but not underfoot while you work on the computer or outside around the house. He won’t pester for attention, but will readily sit or lie down to be petted. He does great off lead around the property (within fenced areas), returning promptly when called. he loves car rides but isn't keen to crate at night. We are working on it and also working at walking on-leash.

LIMERICK is not an alpha dog and gets along well with the other dogs at his foster home. He’s only been at his foster home for a few days and hasn’t fully melded into the pack yet, but he easily mixes amongst the other dogs and joins the pack in racing about the yard chasing after balls and each other. LIMERICK has encountered Lucy Cat a couple of times. He’s interested in her, but has not chased her.

All in all, LIMERICK is a young, sweet, happy dog with a typical young BC’s curiosity and need for daily activity. He’s energetic and playful, but not obsessive/compulsive. He has a nice way of settling down during the day to wait the next play session and at night seems to know when it’s time to call it quits. We believe LIMERICK will benefit from additional personal attention and training to make someone a truly fine companion dog.  He is current on his vaccinations, is micro-chipped, heartworm negative and on preventative.

To learn more about LIMERICK, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

LIMERICK is being fostered in Auburn.

HERBIE MALE - RED & WHITE -  BORN ~ 8/15/12

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Herbie is a wonderful dog who is thriving with one on one attention since his sister was adopted.  He is a very, very sweet dog with kind eyes and gestures. He loves to play outside and is eager to learn and please.  He gets a long with everyone.  He enjoys quiet time with lots of positive reinforcement and petting and he loves being gentle and giving kisses.  Herbie is easy going and a sensational dream pet because he is very smart and a quiet “thinker” and amazingly intuitive.  He seems to understand what is going around him at all times.  He knows when its play time or quiet time without you really having to tell him.   Herbie is fully potty and crate trained and does like to safely retreat into his crate at his own leisure and at night when he sleeps.  He is a perfect companion pet who will take long walks and be loyal and loving and a friend forever!

To be considered for HERBIE you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

Herbie is being fostered in San Rafael.

THE FOLLOWING WERE ADOPTED IN APRIL 2013

LOLA  FEMALE - CHOCOLATE & WHITE - 10 MONTHS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos)

Lola is about 10 months old and weighs about 40 pounds. She is very tall and skinny. Our best guess is Border Collie/Greyhound mix, but we will never know for sure.
Lola came to us from a shelter who took her in as a stray, so there is no background on her. She loves attention and food and not necessarily in that order.
She is energetic and loves the outdoors. She will play fetch with a tennis ball when the other dogs are not outside to steal it from her. She gets along with our five other foster dogs and tolerates the indoor cat.
She loves everyone she has met, though she has not been exposed to children. Because of her energy level, she would not be appropriate for a family with young children.
She is crate trained, house trained and up to date on her shots. She is spayed and ready to find her forever home.

To learn more about LOLA, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

Lola is being fostered outside of Corning.

POPPY  FEMALE - RED & WHITE - 4 - 5 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Poppy is a four to five year old red and white split face Border Collie.  She has a beautiful and thick rough coat.  Poppy is a larger BC at 55 lbs and is a little bit overweight.  Poppy was abandoned at an animal shelter by being thrown over the fence at night.  She has a sweet and endearing personality and is very loving towards her foster parents and strangers that she meets.  She is cat friendly and gets along with them very well.  Poppy is subsisting with the dogs in her foster family, but tries to exert her dominance.  However, she is submissive with humans and will cower towards cats.  She would probably be better suited with a family where the other dog  is submissive or where she is the only dog.  Poppy is an intelligent girl who does well walking on leash and enjoys riding in a car.  She is housetrained and uses the dog door to go out.

Poppy does well off leash and comes when she's called. She also likes water.

Poppy is healthy, spayed, and up-to-date on her shots.

To meet POPPY, you must have an  approved application on file.  To learn more about her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

POPPY is being fostered near Merced, CA

ROSIE  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE - 1 YEAR OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Rosie is a black and white female Border Collie mix who weighs about 35 pounds. Rosie was found as a stray with her sisters, in Sacramento. She has many of the personality traits of a McNab.  We'll never know for sure what she really is, other than a girl that just wants to have fun.  While her sisters were more outgoing, Rosie is a little more reserved.  Rosie gets along fine with our indoor cats, but chases them outside.  She is getting along with the foster dogs that were here before her (young, old male and female) but is wary of all strangers at first.  Rosie is crate trained and house trained.  She has free run of her foster home both day and night, but is just as comfortable in her crate.  Rosie LOVES the water.  She runs right in and swims around at our local creek.

Rosie is a high energy girl who needs room to run.  She is cautious around new comers, but warms up quickly once she is introduced.  This goes for dogs and people.  However because of this and her high energy level, we feel she should only be adopted by someone with Border Collie or dog handling experience.   Rosie would do best in a home without young children. She is micro-chipped, current on vaccinations, heartworm preventative and she is spayed and ready for her forever home.

To meet Rosie, you must have an  approved application on file.  To learn more about her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

DOC  MALE - BLACK & WHITE - 10 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Doc is a lovely 10-year-old gentlemen, who has worked hard all his life.  Another one of the five ranch dogs that came into the shelter after their owner was evicted, Doc has been enjoying his more relaxed life in rescue & all the attention he is getting.  He is a medium-to-low energy dog, who has a kind temperament & who is social, but a tad bit more independent than the other dogs.  He gets along well with other dogs, but doesn't seem to seek them out.  He is quiet & gentle in his movements.  Doc likes being bathed & groomed; he likes massages & to be touched generally.  He will be a wonderful companion.  Doc knows basic commands & is nice on a leash, even as he doesn't seem to be leash-trained; most ranch dogs aren't.  Doc is hard of hearing, but this doesn't seem to bother him.  And it surely doesn't bother us!  We think he's perfect.  Doc is crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in his foster home.  He is neutered, has had a dental, is heartworm negative & on preventative, & is current on vaccines.

To meet DOC, you must have an  approved application on file.  To learn more about him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

DOC is being fostered north of Sacramento, CA

TAZ  FEMALE - WHITE & BLACK-  1 1/2 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

TAZ is a sweetheart.  She weighs 37 pounds and has a medium length coat.

TAZ is good with other dogs, crate trained and hasn't had an accident in her foster home.

TAZ shows a lot of herding instincts and would love to be your next herding dog.  If you don't have livestock, herding classes could be a good outlet for Taz and she would probably be great in herding competitions.

She is spayed, fully vaccinated and ready for her new home.

To learn more about TAZ, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

TAZ is being fostered near Morgan Hill.

BLISS  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE - 7 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Bliss is a 7-year-old girl, one of the five dogs we took in from a shelter after their owner was evicted from his ranch.  She has earned her name, as she is always smiling & happy.  She loves everyone she meets, & will even give hugs to people she has just met. Bliss is a medium-energy dog, & she is a little overweight.  She loves to follow her foster mom around & to go places.  She has a nice level of confidence & is utterly social with dogs & people.  She can also be utterly silly.  When she came in, she had lots of mats in her coat, & she was completely patient & sweet about her bath & brushing, even when getting out the mats.  She simply loves attention!  Bliss will make a wonderful companion dog.  She would live nicely with another dog, but would be more than happy to be someone's one-&-only.  Bliss is crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in her foster mom's house.  She knows basic commands & has nice manners.  She is spayed, has had a dental, is heartworm negative & on preventative, & is current on vaccines.

To meet BLISS, you must have an  approved application on file.  To learn more about her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

LORETTA  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE -  4 MONTHS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Loretta is a darling, outgoing four month old female tri color puppy. She has beautiful markings, and a short, easy care coat. She was picked up stray along with her brother Conway, but in good health. She loves to come in close for love, thoroughly enjoying cuddles and petting. She seems to be a very quick learner, already learning that jumping up is not ok, and that she will only get pets and rewards if she sits down first. Loretta should be very easy and fun to train, as she catches on quickly to what is asked of her. With training, we think she'd be a lovely little agility dog, or maybe a great running partner for active owners. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home.  Her first encounter with a cat went very well, Loretta basically ignored him!  Loretta is up to date on her shots so far, and is on heartworm preventative. Loretta is also microchipped.  She is now ready for her forever home.

To learn more about LORETTA you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

LORETTA is being fostered in Redding.

BELLE  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE - 1 1/2 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Belle is a 1 ½ year old female with a beautiful, silky smooth coat.  She weighs about 40 lbs and is spayed, healthy and up-to-date on her shots.  Belle is a sweet, loving and happy girl who enjoys being around people.  She is a delight to have around our home and is a very good girl.  She gets along well with dogs of all sizes, is cat friendly and loves kids.  Belle is a smart, playful, athletic girl and enjoys running around our ranch exploring.  She is good on and off leash, listens well, and comes when you call her.  She loves to ride in the car and travels well.  She is housetrained and uses the dog door to go out.  She does not dig nor does she chew or tear up anything.  She is a little shy around new people, but will warm up to them easily with a kind word.  Belle has a lot of unused potential and a lot of love and cuddles to give her new family.

To meet BELLE, you must have an  approved application on file.  To learn more about him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

DEACON  MALE - BLACK & WHITE - 9 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Deacon is a lovely 9-year-old boy, who has the biggest heart!  And everyone who meets him loves him.  He is one of the five dogs we took into rescue when the owner/rancher was evicted & the dogs were turned into the shelter.  Deacon is a true Velcro border collie, following his person around & leaning in for pets with a big smile on his face.  He gets along well with the other dogs from his original pack & with the dogs in his foster home.  He would probably do well in a home with another dog or as an only dog as long as his people are around a lot. After all, he was with his person 24/7 when he was on the ranch.  He has a medium activity level, but still likes to go.  Deacon has lovely house manners, has taken to a crate without a hitch, & has not had an accident in his foster home. He loves to go places in his foster mom's van, riding in a crate, of course.  He is fine for a bath, brushing, combing, & nail trimming. This is such a sweet, sweet boy, who desires & deserves a wonderful forever home.  He is neutered, has had a dental, is heartworm negative & on preventative, is current on all vaccines, & has been wormed.

To meet DEACON, you must have an  approved application on file.  To learn more about him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

THE FOLLOWING WERE ADOPTED IN MARCH 2013

SHEP  MALE - TRI-COLOR - 4 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

SHEP is a 4-year-old border collie/queensland heeler mix.  SHEP is a big time cuddle bug! He loves to lean in & give gentle kisses, & even to get part way into your lap if you'll let him. He starts out shy but when he gets to know you he will be your constant companion & best friend. SHEP is also good with dogs, both male & female. He plays nicely & figures out his place in the pack. He did like to herd the horses at previous foster homes so a place with livestock will not work for him. Because SHEP is such a velcro dog, we'd like to find him a home where he gets to spend time with his people & where he is not left outside a lot of the day. He does not have any sort of separation anxiety, but this is how he will thrive. SHEP is learning some basic commands with a cookie, & he is crate-trained; he also hasn't had an accident in his foster home. He doesn't have leash training per se, but he's not a terrible puller, & we're working on that.  If you're looking for a great pal dog & one who will light up like a Christmas tree when he sees you, then SHEP might be your forever friend! He is neutered, micro-chipped,  heartworm negative & on preventative, & current on vaccines.

To learn more about SHEP you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com

SHEP is being fostered in Auburn.

BARNEY  MALE - BLACK & WHITE - 2 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

This is Barney.  He is probably the happiest dog you’ll ever meet!  Barney is a Border Collie/Lab mix who weighs about 45 lbs.  He is approximately 2 yrs. old and has a short easy care coat.

Barney is a very “happy” dog.  He gets along with adults, children, other dogs and just about everybody and everything he meets.  His attitude towards life just seems to be, well…. “happy”.  He is a bit shy when first meeting new people but warms up quickly.  He has bonded very fast, and very close, with his foster parents.  He is a little too big to be a lap dog but he sure tries.  He wants to be with you all the time but has no separation anxiety issues if left alone.  He rides nicely in the car, crates easily for bedtime or any other time and walks nicely on leash.

Barney tends to be calm indoors but active when outside.  He loves to run, and with his long legs, he out runs most, if not all, of the other dogs at the dog park.  He needs soft but FIRM corrections and lots of praise. Barney is intelligent and VERY food motivated so he will be easy to train, however, he will do better with someone who can be the “leader of the pack” and give him the exercise and training that he will need to bring out the great dog that is eager and willing to learn!

Barney is neutered, micro chipped and is current on all of his shots.  He is heartworm negative and on a monthly preventative.  There are no health issues that we are aware of.  He is housebroken and gives us his special signal to let us know that he needs to go outside to go potty.

Barney will be fine in almost any environment with other dogs, kids, etc., however, he will need exercise, attention and room to run and play so that he will become the best dog anyone could ask for!  Barney has been a joy to foster but he needs a family to call his own!

To learn more about Barney, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com

Barney is being fostered in Nevada City.

PIPPA  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE - 4 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Meet PIPPA, the youngest of the five ranch dogs rescued about 10 days ago. PIPPA is a sweetie pie of an 4 year old spayed female border collie.  She’s a lovely black and white girl with soft fur and a love to be petted. She appears to be housebroken with no accidents in her foster home.  PIPPA is very soft and a real pleasure to run your hands through her fur.

Her story is that she was one of the five dogs were abandoned by their owner on their working cattle ranch when he was evicted.  Pippa came to rescue through a shelter, now we are looking for a new forever home for her.

PIPPA has a wonderful quiet demeanor.  Outside she’s a typical BC who loves to explore and play.  Indoors she understands she’s in a controlled environment and acts accordingly, loving nothing more than to curl up as close to her 'human' as she can get.   She’ll  gladly cuddle and put her head on your lap for a long petting session.  Pippa also loves to give shy kisses when she is being petted or brushed. Pippa would make an ideal companion for someone who needs a new best friend in their life.

While not a ball chaser yet, PIPPA will watch the game and run with  the other dogs who have the  ball.  She is crate trained and understands stay, down and off commands. Pippa loves to ride in the car. Pippa does ignore Lucy Cat so no problem there.

All in all, PIPPA is a young, sweet, happy dog with a typical young BC’s curiosity and need for daily activity.  She’s low key and playful, but not obsessive/compulsive and she settles down nicely to wait the next play session.  We believe PIPPA will benefit from personal attention and training to become the best dog she can be.   PIPPA is current on her vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on preventative.

To meet PIPPA, you must have an  approved application on file.  To learn more about her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

PIPPA is being fostered in Auburn, CA

He loves to travel in his foster mom's van, in a crate, of course. Wick has nice manners. He is crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in his foster home. He would like a home where someone is home with him more than not, as that is what he is used to. (He does not have separation anxiety!) Hi, I’m Emmy. I just love everyone and everything. My favorite things to do are to cuddle and give lots of kisses. I enjoy being outside and really want to learn how to take nice long walks and all the things you want to teach me. I’m totally potty trained and very fond of doing the best I can for you. I am great with kids, little or big! My foster mom says I’m really smart and very nice. She also says I do get into things and put things in my mouth faster than anyone my age, so your house may need to be puppy proofed. I can’t wait to meet you!

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Wick is a gorgeous 2-year-old black-&-white rough-coated boy. He is as lovely on the inside as he is on the outside. He loves people & gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. While he gets along with the dogs, he prefers people. Wick moves beautifully & is very responsive, so he might love learning a fun dog sport like agility or being someone's running buddy. Wick seems to have had some training. He knows "sit" & "down"; he comes when he is called; & he crates beautifully. He likes to go places in his foster mom's van, riding in a crate, of course. He is not a barker at all, & he has not had an accident in his foster home. He is energetic, but not over-the-top. THE FOLLOWING WERE ADOPTED IN FEBRUARY 2013

OZZY  MALE - BLACK & WHITE -  1 1/2 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Meet Ozzy, an adorable little BC who has come into rescue having survived the rather cruel conditions of having been continuously chained up.

Ozzy is a smaller, 1-1/2 yr. old male BC with a medium coat weighing about 35 lbs. Although he is still a little shy, until he gets to know you, Oz is very smart and very willing to learn and he will be a wonderful partner for the right person who will give him what he needs most! Oz is an energetic young dog who loves to run and would be a happy boy running alongside someone who is a jogger/runner/bike rider or even be taught to pull you on rollerblades like Cesar Millan does!  Even though Ozzy is very calm and relaxed in the house he has boundless energy outdoors so any type of exercise that tires him out would be great because, “a tired dog is a happy dog’!

Oz really loves neck scratches but will relax when you give him massages and belly rubs! Ozzy is totally housebroken and has not had a single accident in his foster home. He shows no sign of being a chewer but will steal the occasional shoe.

He is very tolerant of, Turbo, the 20 yr. old cat in his foster home to the point of ignoring him.  He plays well with his foster brother, Jax, and with all the other neighborhood dogs and has a blast at the dog park, too! Ozzy will need someone with patience to help him get over his past.   I have witnessed a real transformation with this dog and he has touched his foster mom’s heart!

Ozzy is just a sweet, gentle soul that will melt your heart when you look into one blue eye and one brown eye as he gives you kisses!

He is crate trained, micro chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and current on all medications.

To learn more about OZZY, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

OZZY is being fostered in Nevada City.

LINUS  MALE - BLACK & WHITE -  1 YEAR OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

LINUS Is a happy dog who loves to wag his tall and dance.  He is medium size around 38 pounds with a smooth short coat.  He is around a year old and such a happy boy.  Linus is food motivated and wants to please, he is obedient and wonderful on leash loving his daily walks and play time.  He is a humorous clown and dances at feeding time or for treats, I have found him outside in patio chairs and lounges happy as can be, he also does well in the house and does not get on the furniture.  He is crate trained, where he sleeps and is quiet all night.

Linus gets along wonderfully with other dogs and his foster home 4 cats being very polite and respectful.

If the cats prefer the dog bed he will curl up in a cat bed, rather funny to see.

Being food motivated he will try to get to any dog or cat food left on a counter top, we are working on that.  He is learning basic obedience and loves people and other dogs though a bit shy at first introduction he quickly warms up and wants pets, hugs and kisses if allowed.  He has not shown a tendency to jump up or crowd, he is quite cautious coming through doorways. While shy at first he is becoming quite trusting.  At times, sudden movement and loud sounds startle him, with love and patience he will get over that.  He always comes when called.   He is quiet if left and has not tried to escape his foster home’s fenced 2 acres.   Linus travels well in the car and is starting to get excited about going for a ride.  He is easy to handle and very good for bathing and grooming, even tolerating his teeth being brushed.

Linus is neutered, current on his vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.

While he did have fleas when rescued he is now flea free and his coat is improving as he gets good nutrition and is starting to gain a little weight, being on the thin side.

Linus’s foster mom doesn’t feel he has had much experience, yet, with toys and chasing balls, as he adjusts to his foster home he has started sneaking his foster home female border collie’s toys and even her ball.  A number of toys have been found in his crate.  He plays with her, and is very happy to have a playmate.  Linus would love to have a forever home where he can relax, not worry about his next meal and become a normal dog and part of a family, learn to play ball, go for walks and give kisses.

To learn more about LINUS, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

WOODY is a 2-year-old Border Collie mix. He is active & playful, loves toys & the other dogs in his foster home. Woody loves to run & to go places with his foster mom. He has completed an obedience class & he was the star pupil on leash. He is goofy & also likes to jump up, so he would benefit from continued training to be the best dog he can be. He would love to be someone's running partner! He would be a good match for someone who wants an active, trainable young dog, but not one with the typical intensity of a purebred Border Collie. Woody is crate-trained & housebroken. He is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative & on heartworm preventative.

ZACHARY  MALE - BLACK & WHITE -  1 YEAR OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Zachary is a happy, fun loving boy. A border collie/lab mix, he is bigger in stature, around 60 pounds, and has a beautiful, soft, sleek, easy care coat. He is approximately a year old. Zachary loves playing with the other border collies in his foster home, playing chase in the yard and just running happily around. He hasn't displayed any herding tendencies thus far. Zach has a nice temperament indoors, settles down for quiet time nicely, and tends to be content just following his foster family around. He sleeps quietly either in his bed or in his crate at night. Zach will alarm-bark at strangers at first, but only for a moment, then he's all wiggle-butt and happy grins as he greets his new friends. He loves playing with toys, and would love to have his own family to play with. Zach would do well either in a home where his people are home most of the time, or with another dog friend to keep him entertained and busy throughout the day until his family gets home. A home without cats would be best. Zachary will benefit from additional training to be the best dog he can be, although he already has a good handle on basic obedience, and is very happy to learn and eager to please. He is neutered, up to date on shots and heartworm preventative, and is ready to go to his forever home.

DILLON MALE - BLACK & WHITE -  12 WEEKS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Dillon is a 12-week-old super people-oriented pup. He is responsive & soft to correct. Prior to coming into reduce he was strictly an outdoor boy, so the whole house thing is quite an adventure for him. While everything is new to him, he is very willing to go & investigate anything that initially scares him. He is already walking fabulously on leash, & he knows "sit" & "down." He is socializing to adult dogs & he respects cats. He sticks close to his foster mom when he is not on leash & follows her around. He is current on his vaccines & worming, & he is microchipped.

To learn more about DILLON you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

DILLON is being fostered near Auburn.

LILY  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE -  4 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Lily is a four year old black and white female Border Collie.  She has a shorter length rough coat and weighs about 40 lbs.  Lily was a stray and came to us undernourished and underweight, but she has been filling out nicely and her coat is also getting more lustrous and fuller.  Lily is a kind-hearted and gentle girl who adores being petted and loved.  She is friendly to everyone she meets and gets along well with dogs of all sizes and cats.  She is very well behaved indoors, quiet, is housetrained (with no accidents!) and uses the dog door to go outside.  Lily is smart, athletic and has a herding instinct, but she is not overly active nor hyper, like some BC’s can be.  She loves to ride in cars and travel and loves to meet new people.  Lily is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all of her shots.  She will make a wonderful and loving companion when she finds her forever family.

To learn more about LILY, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

LILY is being fostered near Merced.

SCOUT  MALE - BLACK & WHITE -  12 WEEKS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Scout is a 12-week-old boy with a great disposition. He gets along with everyone, including the cat, in his foster home. He learns things so quickly, as he is smart as a whip. He's already trained to use a pee pad & is working on going outside. He is settling in his crate beautifully for sleep & rest time. Scout has toy drive & a nice level of confidence. While something new might startle him for a second, he recovers quickly. This pup has lots of energy & drive & the typical border collie smarts & keenness, so he is best suited for a home with someone who knows how to provide stimulation, training, & the leadership that BCs love. He is an awesome puppy & would probably enjoy a home where he gets to do fun things like agility. He will not be placed in a home with young children.

To learn more about SCOUT, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

SCOUT is being fostered near Sacramento.

MURPHY  MALE - RED & WHITE -  10 MONTHS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

MURPHY is a very sweet, 10 month old, neutered red and white, Border Collie .  His coat is midway between rough and smooth, which makes it very soft and a real pleasure to run your hand through (which he loves immensely!).

MURPHY is medium sized, weighing about 39 lbs.   He is still not fully grown and will probably be a good 45 plus lbs. when he reaches adulthood. MURPHY came from a ranch in Northern California but proved to not have the herding instincts of his sire.  He came into rescue a month ago having been an outside dog until then he has adapted easily to being an indoor/outdoor dog. He has been an extremely well behaved guest at his foster home.  He is housebroken, crate trained and gets along splendidly with all of the other dogs here.

MURPHY has been shy to start with but his confidence is growing and he is affectionate and playful.  He  hasn't barked  at strangers that pass by and happily greets new people and dogs that come into the yard.

MURPHY has a healthy curiosity and need for daily activity, but we would not classify him as a high energy or high drive dog.  We believe he would make a wonderful companion/family dog.  As noted already, he gets along well with all of his pack mates and shows no particular interest in Lucy Cat.  He's learning to walk on a lead and has a basic recall for (safe from vehicle traffic) off lead activities.

All in all, MURPHY is a nice, young dog who could use some additional training to be the best dog he can be.  He is current on his vaccinations and is on heartworm preventative.

To learn more about MURPHY, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

DAMON  MALE - BLACK & WHITE -  1 YEAR OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Damon is smooth coated male Border Collie. He is just over a year old and is a petite 32 pounds. His mother was a rough coated Border Collie who is a working dog on a ranch. His Dad also worked on the ranch, but rescuers did not see dad. He started as an outdoor pup on the ranch, but easily adapted to being a house dog when he came to rescue. Damon is a happy go lucky pup. He can play ball all day long and loves to run and hike. Damon had been placed, but had to come back to rescue because his family could no longer care for him. He is high energy and always ready for action, but settles down nicely indoors. He gets along with our indoor cat and all of the various male and female dogs in our home. Damon is house trained, crate trained, neutered and up to date on his shots. Damon is being fostered outside of Corning.

THE FOLLOWING WERE ADOPTED IN JANUARY 2013

HURRICANE SISTERS  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE -  BORN 11/15/12

KATRINA

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

SANDY

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

KATRINA & SANDY are two special little girls.  They are very small for their age but they are healthy and strong.  Their mother, a purebred Border Collie, weighs around 28 pounds, so these girls shouldn't be very large when they mature.  We have no idea who the father is but believe he is a Border Collie as the girls appear to be purebred.

The puppies love their toys!  Katrina already retrieves, bringing her toy right back to me.  Sandy prefers to make her toys squeak!  Katrina is brave and likes to investigate new things, Sandy likes to stay close to her people.

They love to romp in the grass and they love to be held.

Sandy has a half length tail.  Since they will both be long haired when they mature, the hair on Sandy's tail should grow long and you'll hardly know it's not full length!

To learn more about HURRICANE SISTERS, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

KATRINA & SANDY are being fostered in Morgan Hill.

DECAF  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE-  10-12 MONTHS OLD

DECAF

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Decaf is a 10-to-12-month border collie/lab mix, who weighs about 35 pounds. She has the smooth coat & slightly shorter legs of a lab, & the smarts & energy of a border collie. A winning combination! Decaf was picked up stray, but she is confident and social. Decaf is smart, quick, and treat-motivated. She is also interested in toys, so she will be fun to play with & work with in training. Decaf  loves people & plays well with other dogs; we don't know about cats. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, & on heartworm preventative.

To learn more about DECAF, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

NEMO  MALE - BLACK & WHITE -  3 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

NEMO is a big 3-year-old boy, who would love to find a home for the new year!  He was picked up stray by a family that came to love him dearly, but they lost their place & had to move in with family.

Nemo has been a well-mannered boy since he's been in rescue.  He loves people & is confident & social with them.  He enjoys going places & rides well in his foster mom’s van, loading up into his crate willingly, as if to say: “Let’s go, Mom!”  He enjoys training, especially with treats.  He knows the commands for “sit,” “down,” & “come,” & is working on his leash manners.  Nemo is crate-trained & housebroken, & he’s quiet.  He will benefit from continued training to be the best dog he can be.  Nemo will thrive in an active home with someone who will continue to work with him & will be a good leader.

He has a tendency to be dominant & sometimes reactive to other dogs, so he would need to be placed in a home with a dog his size & one that doesn't need to be boss.  He would not be a good candidate for a dog park or a home with cats or small dogs.

He is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative & on preventatives, microchipped, & wormed.

To learn more about NEMO, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

NEMO is being fostered north of Sacramento.

MORGAN  MALE- BLACK & WHITE - BORN 7/21/12

MORGAN

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Morgan is from a litter of pups that was born in a shelter after their mother, who was a stray, was picked up by animal control.  We can't guarantee he is a purebred as we have no idea who the father was.   We think he probably has some Lab in him.  This is a great combination as the Lab helps tone down the strong herding instinct of the Border Collie.  Morgan is much mellower than most pups his age and he is very eager to please.  He is very sweet and loves to give kisses.

Morgan is a great pup, he uses a doggy door and go outside to potty.  He absolutely loves to play with toys.  He is crate trained and sleeps through the night without an accident.

For more information about Morgan, you must have an approved application on file with us.

To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Zeus is a handsome young tri-color Border Collie male with a smooth coat.  He is 1 ½ yrs old, weighs about 40 lbs, is healthy, neutered, and up-to-date on his shots.  Zeus previously lived on a cattle ranch, but didn’t work out with his former family as a working dog.  He is a friendly boy who has never met a stranger and gets along with dogs of all sizes, cats, and loves children.  Zeus has been crate trained and uses the dog door to go out.  He is smart, inquisitive, athletic, has a strong herding instinct and enjoys running and playing with balls.  He is leash trained, likes riding in cars, spending time with people and is a huge cuddler.  Zeus is comfortable living inside with his foster family and packmates, but likes to be outdoors as well.  He has a lot of potential and could be trained for agility or herding competitions.  Zeus will make a wonderful, loving companion when he finds his forever family.

 Zeus is microchipped.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

HENRY is a very sweet two year old, black and white Border Collie.  He is a rough-coat who's fur is very soft and a real pleasure to run your hand through (which he loves immensely!).  HENRY is a smaller dog  weighing about 34 lbs.  He has been an extremely well behaved guest at his foster home.  He is house broken, crate trained and gets along very well with his pack mates, especially young Sally and Megwyn who he plays with every day. HENRY has come into rescue as a stray but his house manners would indicate he has been someone dog recently.  He has a nice level of confidence which makes him affectionate and playful.  He will does not bark at strangers that pass by, and happily greets new people and dogs that come into the yard.

HENRY loves to snuggle and you will find him happily snuggled up to you on the couch. He is quick about it and it makes you wonder....now where did you come from! Definitely a love bug.

HENRY has a healthy curiosity and need for daily activity, but we would not classify him   as a high energy or high drive dog.  We believe he would make a wonderful companion/family dog.  As noted already, he gets along well with all of his pack mates and shows no particular interest in Lucy Cat.  He walks nicely on a lead and has a basic recall for (safe from vehicle traffic) off lead activities.

MAGGIE adopted before going on the website.  Thanks Janie & Brett!!!

BROWNIE  MALE - RED & WHITE - 2 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Check out Brownie's video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOKTOCCwVBs

Brownie would love a new home for the new year!  He is an extremely handsome boy that loves to cuddle, be next to you, and cuddle some more.  Brownie is a kind, soft dog, who will be a wonderful friend to someone lucky enough to adopt him. He will reward his person(s) many times over with his sweetness & devotion.

Brownie loves people, but new experiences make him worry a bit; he comes around VERY quickly.  Brownie is a very fast learner, and if you have a treat in your hand, you'll have his undivided attention! He is a sweet boy who just wants to play & be loved.  His training is coming along very nicely.  He is crate-trained & housebroken.

Brownie has a couple really cute quirks - he is really curious about things, and any time he hears a funny sound he will stop whatever he's doing to intently listen and tilt his head. And sometimes when he gets really excited, he starts quivering/snapping his jaws really fast!

He gets along well with female dogs in his foster home, so we think he should go to a home with only female dogs (unless they are overly dominant), or as an only dog.  He would love having a female friend to play with! Due to his desire to chase, Brownie needs to go to a home with no cats or other small animals.

To learn more about Brownie, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

DETOUR  MALE -BLACK & WHITE -  2 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

DETOUR is a 2-year-old Cardigan Corgi/Border Collie mix boy. He is a delightful, funny dog. He loves people & gets along well with the foster dogs in his foster home. We don't know about cats. Detour is active, but not like a typical young border collie. He's playful, but not over-the-top. He doesn't seem to have had much training, but he has nice manners. He responds well to praise & to trains, so he will be a fun dog to train. Detour loves to be with people, so he would do best in a home situation where someone is home more than less. He is crate-traine, & hasn't had an accident in his foster home. Detour is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, & on heartworm preventative.

ROISIN  FEMALE - TRI-COLOR -  18 MONTHS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Roisin is an adorable tri colored medium coated spayed female, 18 months old, and a medium sized dog weighing 35 lbs. The name Roisin is Irish and means little rose it is pronounced Ro-jeen with a soft j.

Roisin comes from a No. Ca. ranch. She has lived mostly outdoors. She is now learning about being an indoor and outdoor dog. Not yet fully housebroken she is crate trained. Ro loves being in the house, and is quickly learning many new experiences, such as going up and down steps, riding in a car, meeting new people and experiencing new places somewhat hesitant at first she really is a quick learner.

Ro is good on a leash and has started basic obedience. She comes off as a little shy and does an "amazing" drop and belly crawl when unsure, but is quickly becoming enthusiastic and very eager for outings, walks and play with her Foster Mom’s other Border Collie. Ro is amazing with her foster home cats (4) probably one of the politest of dogs with cats one could imagine.

Ro appears to have not had a lot of life’s experiences; at 18 months she has raised 2 litters of BC pups. She is learning about a whole new world and love. She is a sweet and caring dog but quite vocal when strangers come to the house, once introduced she considers her job well done and goes about her business. She wants to be close to her person and will melt your heart with her "I’m here" paw on your leg signal.

Ro is low key and loving with a quiet demeanor and appears to need only soft corrections, she is learning to play with and enjoy toys and shares well with her foster Mom’s dog. She is really focused on her person and comes quickly to a call or whistle loving attention and hugs.

Ro is a young happy dog who with training, love and affection will become a valued part of any home. She fits in well with other animals, is food motivated and would with time be a wonderful companion. One could only guess at this juncture in her life what other talents she could have with time and love. She has been left in the house and car, with her new canine friend, for periods of time with no problems, other than trying to get to dog kibble on a counter. She is curious and will "look" at the tops of counters, etc but if something does fall off she loses interest.

Ro needs work on her barking when left alone, she does better when out with another dog. She is heartworm negative and current on her vaccinations.

To learn more about RO, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

ROISIN is being fostered in Auburn.

CALVIN MALE - BLACK & WHITE - 2 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Calvin is a 2-year-old cuddle bug!  He loves to lean in & give gentle kisses, & even to get part way into your lap if you'll let him.  He likes people of all ages & seeks affection from everyone.  Calvin is also good with dogs, both male & female.  He plays nicely & figures out his place in the pack.  Because Calvin is so social with people, we'd like to find him a home where he gets to spend time with his people & where he is not left outside a lot of the day.  He does not have any sort of separation anxiety, but this is how he will thrive.  Calvin is learning some basic commands with a cookie, & he is crate-trained; he also hasn't had an accident in his foster home.  He doesn't have leash training per se, but he's not a terrible puller, & we're working on that.  Calvin is a little too keen about cats, so a home with no cats would be best.  If you're looking for a great pal dog & one who will light up like a Christmas tree when he sees you, then Calvin might be your forever friend!  He is neutered, heartworm negative & on preventative, & current on vaccines.

To learn more about Calvin, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting him, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

Calvin is being fostered north of Sacramento.

JESS  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE - 2 YEARS OLD.

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

JESS is a lovely, spayed, 2 year old female. She is a smaller, black and white smooth coat BC weighing about 30 lbs. She appears to be fully housebroken and is crate trained for sleeping at night. She also likes to retire to her crate during the day for rest time.

JESS gets along well with her pack mates, especially young Megwyn, with whom she tussles and plays throughout the day. She started out extremely shy at the beginning of her foster care, staying on the sidelines and just watching the other dogs. She has since joined the pack for going out to play. She can still be a little wary at times, but her confidence grows daily. We do not know what caused her initial shyness but a soft voice, patience and lots of love will help her to trust like she clearly wants to, as indicated by her wagging tail and squiggly body as she slowly approaches you. On the other hand, she shows no hesitation at greeting her food bowl at dinner time!

While JESS is a young, active dog who likes to play with stuffed toys and balls (and steal them from the other dogs), she can also lie down quietly while you work at your desk. Overall, JESS is a sweet dog who will benefit from a family willing to make the time and effort to help her feel confident and loved.  She is current on her vaccinations, heartworm negative and on preventatives.

To learn more about JESS, you must have an approved application on file.  To inquire about adopting her, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com.

JESS is being fostered in Auburn.

PADDY  MALE - BLACK/BRINDLE & WHITE -  1 YEAR OLD

PADDY is a 1 year old, sweetie of a Border Collie mix.  Because of his size and stature our best guess he's a German Shepherd/Border Collie cross.  He is a black and white ( with  brindle coloring on his face), medium coat, neutered male. He has a very soft coat and he loves to be petted (let us reiterate, he loves to be petted!). He is a good sized dog, weighing about 70 lbs. PADDY has been a well behaved guest at his foster home. He is housebroken and has not exhibited destructive behavior such as digging in the yard. He may alarm bark at strangers that pass by, but has shown himself to be friendly once the person is made known to him.  He crates nicely at night as well as in the car. He loves to go on walks and although he has been trained to pull on a lead (he worked as a narcotic sniffing dog with the police for a time) he is learning not to pull anymore. He also likes the water and will follow the other dogs for a swim.

PADDY gets along well with the other dogs at his foster home. He likes to play and romp with the pack though his normal casual demeanor often gets pushed aside and he gets excited when the other dogs run about (i.e., his "BC" gets activated). Inside, the smaller dogs can climb over him and "muscle" their way in to get petted and he has hardly any reaction to them other than to reposition himself for continued petting. He has encountered Lucy Cat a few times, chased after her initially, but now shows little interest in her.

PADDY can be a bit stubborn and we’re working on our being strong pack leaders with him. He does sit nicely and will roll onto his back for a tummy rub.

All in all, PADDY is a typical young BC with curiosity and need for daily activity. He’s energetic and playful, but not obsessive/compulsive and has a nice way of settling down. We believe PADDY will benefit from additional personal attention and training to make someone a great companion dog. He is current on his vaccinations and on heartworm preventative.

KIP  MALE -BLACK & WHITE - 6 YEARS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

Kip is a tiny 6-year-old, whose family could no longer keep him & who turned him into a shelter, where he was scared to death. From the second he arrived in rescue, he has been Mr. Happypants. He literally dances whenever he sees his foster mom, he gets so excited. Kip is very treat-motivated & has a nice desire to please; he always comes when he's called. Kip has a medium energy level by border collie standards, & might like to take regular walks, once he learns how to walk on a leash. He walks on a leash now, but could refine his skills a bit. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. Kip has a nice, deep bark, but he is not a barker. He is crate-trained & hasn't had an accident in his foster home. Kip is neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm negative & on preventative.

EMA  FEMALE - BLACK & WHITE - 14 WEEKS OLD

(Click on picture for additional photos.)

My name is Ema, I’m a Border Collie Mix puppy. My sibling and I were found playing on a busy street. The people who found us could not locate our owners and when I became sick they took me to the Vet. I found out I had Parvo, I’m not sure what that is but I didn’t like it. I had to stay in a crate by myself for a very long period of time but I’m now all better and looking for my forever home.

My foster people say I’m very smart, I am already crate trained, know sit, down and I come most of the time when I’m called. I’m clicker trained and boy do I like that, because I love to eat and I know a click means a treat! I’ve learned about the business end of a cat so I’m pretty good at not chasing them anymore. I’ve been introduced to chickens, horses and sheep. I actually had a stare down contest with one of the sheep and I won, teach him to try to win a staring contest with a Border Collie. I get along with all the dogs in my foster home, although I annoy them sometimes because I act too much like a puppy and they like to remind me about manners. And people, oh how I love people! Please remember that I am a puppy and I will need someone who is patient and will continue to show me how a big dog should behave.

Don’t forget if you’re interested in meeting me you have to have an approved application on file.  Once you have submitted your application, please email bcfosterdog@gmail.com
