Border Collie Rescue of Northern California
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the welfare of the Border Collie. We are active in rescue from shelters and we assist owners who wish to place their dogs. We depend on donations, adoption fees and profits from the sale of merchandise to take care of the dogs in foster care. Medical bills run very high and donations are always welcome. If you would care to make a donation, or need more information, please contact Border Collie Rescue of Northern California or click on Donations.

ACE UPDATE!

ACE is resting here after his daily physical therapy: longer &
longer
leash walks. We were able to catch him in a quiet moment! He has
four weeks of on-leash walks, & then he can be the wild & crazy
Border
Collie boy he wants to be again. He's counting the minutes! He's
begun some very basic obedience while he's taking his walks & is
learning not to pull on the leash & to stay down instead of jumping.
He is healing beautifully--no complications, & he's using the leg &
hip without hesitation. Thank you to everyone who has donated to
pay
for his surgery. He's going to be 100%, & is well on his way now.

ACE needs your help! This 8-month-old gorgeous goofball came
into
rescue with a hidden problem. While he is every bit the active,
fun-loving, on-the-go BC teenager, he showed reluctance to jump up
into things like cars & vans. He also didn't seem to have the full
coordination we expect from a young, athletic BC. We watched him
for
several weeks. Finally, we took him in for x-rays & they showed
that
he had a severely dysplastic hip on the right side. Lots of
motility
that shouldn't be there. We had a wonderful veterinary ortho
specialist evaluate him--to see if anything needed to be done or
could
be done for Ace to have a normal & comfortable life. He's so young
to
face limitation of movement. The specialist determined that Ace was
going to have lots of problems with that hip & soon, if he didn't
have
surgery--even if he didn't do typical BC activities. And with
surgery, he would have wonderful quality of life, even being able to
do sports like agility if he showed the inclination. We elected to
have the surgery, & Ace is doing very well. He will have limited
activity for 10 weeks, & he's handling his recuperation like a
champ.
He has used the leg from the day after his surgery, & he's only got
9
weeks of limited activity left. We are very fortunate that this
specialist works with us on the cost of the surgery & with paying
for
it, but it's still a huge bill, over $2500. We will need
donations--to help pay for Ace to have this good prognosis & chance
at
a normal BC life. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a
difference. Thank you from Ace, who is looking forward to 2010 with
a
new lease on life.
