AVAILABLE DOGS IN LOCAL SHELTERS OR WITH OTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS
The following dogs are listed as a courtesy to our local shelters and other
rescue organizations. The dogs have not been evaluated by Border Collie
Rescue of Northern California, Inc. Please contact the shelters directly if
you are interested in one of these dogs.

Josie is more than a
sweetheart! She is a 10 year old Border Collie and is around 35
lbs. Josie is an older gal so she is pretty mellow. She loves
car rides and paws you to make sure you keep petting her. Since
she is older some people may turn away from her but she would do
great in any home I could find. She would be perfectly content
to spend her days at the foot of a couch getting pet.
She would do best as an
only dog home with no cats. She is an older gal and can act like
it! For more information, please email
onemoredogrescue@aol.com

“Ziva is a 15 month old, 65 lb black & white BC/Lab/Shep mix. She
would prefer to be an only pet. She loves to snuggle and watch TV.
She walks very politely on leash”.

Meet Cola a sweet 3 year old neutered male,
Golden Retriever/Border Collie. Cola is up on all shots, good with
dogs/cats, loves to play ball, runs like a bullet, plays in the water, great
jogging buddy, loves to set in the drivers seat in the car, very loving boy.
He thinks he has been put on earth to play and be happy. Check out his
handsome photos......

This is Bentley. He is a cross between a Border Collie and Lab. He is a
sweet dog who loves everyone. Bentley is around 2 years
of age. He is a neutered male and fully vaccinated. He is very good with other dogs and he is very, very
people oriented.
Bentley
is 100% housetrained, and walks well on leash. He can be left unsupervised
in the house and has only occasionally gotten into mischief (taking Kleenex
out of the bathroom waste baskets), but responds very well to every
correction. He is solid with his "wait", "sit", "off" and "leave it"
commands and responds positively to "go lay down." He's very affectionate
and quite the little cuddlebug and he absolutely LOVES to play ball! And,
unlike my own dogs who absolutely refuse to retrieve, Bentley actually
returns with the ball! He is crate trained, but has also learned how to
break out of the crate. When it became apparent that we could no longer
contain him with the use of a crate, coming home to find him loose in the
house with our two Goldens and no damage to the home, we decided it was
probably time to start trusting him more and allow him to be loose in the
house unsupervised. With only a few very minor exceptions . . . and I
emphasize very minor . . . he has not let us down in the trust department.
As Bentley still needs work on proofing a reliable recall,
he needs a secure fence. He has a lot of herding drive, so he is not a
candidate for a home with small critters like cats or a first-time BC owner.
For an active person & for someone who knows & appreciates the drive,
intelligence, & serious fun of a BC, Bentley is your boy. He will love the
physical & mental stimulation.

Meet “Kaeli” – 14 months old Border Collie Mix

Meet "Kaeli" Kaeli is a beautiful, smart, and energetic girl. She
is looking for an active home with previous dog experience and desire to
continue her training. Kaeli loves to run, jog, chase a ball, Kong or
her Frisbee, and play with compatible other dogs. She can be dog
selective/leash reactive and requires a calm and confident handler who
can show her how to remain calm and happy as she walks by other dogs.
She likes the water, car rides, and playing the game "find it". Kaeli is
house trained, non-destructive when left alone, and has her basic
obedience but she will test you at times and will keep you on your toes.
Kaeli is cuddly and affectionate and likes to plop her head in your lap
for some loving. She has many kisses to offer and she sleeps at your
feet or beside your bed. Belly rubs are appreciated. She is happy to be
where ever her people are, doing whatever they are doing. She will do
best in a home with no young children where her human companions are
committed to continuing reward-based training.
For more information on Kaeli, please send an email to kfravon@yahoo.com.

Meet Patoo,
approximately 3 year old, spayed, potty trained, beautiful female dog.

Meet Patoo, approximately 3 year old,
spayed, potty trained, beautiful female dog. She was born in Vafa Animal
Shelter in Iran, and she has been fostered in a home here in SF Bay Area
where she has been learning some social skills and become potty trained.
Patoo is looking for a relatively quiet home with adult household
members and no other dogs to prevent her from bonding with another dog
instead of her guardians. Don't get us wrong. She LOVES dogs, but now
that we have her in a home without dogs, she's bonded nicely with
people. She is a shy dog and is happiest when people give her space and
time to warm up to them. If you are looking for a dog to cuddle with on
your bed and couch, she is NOT the dog for you. She is happy in her own
bed, and will let you know when she is ready for some petting and
attention, however that may take few weeks before it happens. She is
respectful towards cats and leaves them alone. She LOVES to go on walks,
but again, at first she may be shy and take time to get excited to go
out on a walk with her person. Right now, she sings and gets very
excited when her foster mom gets home from work and she lets her know by
stretching and sitting in front of her, saying: "I'm ready, let's go!"
She has been to dog parks with us, and hangs out with her person most of
them time, and will start playing with other dogs only after she gets to
know them.

Pepper has a "King
of the Hill" way of approaching new situations that may be an
issue with dominant-minded dogs - neutered. When challenged by
another dog, he goes submissive. He plays fetch and responds to the
squeaky toy. Good on leash. Have not yet tested with cats. Medium to
high energy. Anxious at the fence, but is improving. Treat
motivated. About 2 yrs.

Auburn Foster Home

The mom is Ziva. Ziva is very friendly and loves children and other
dogs. She appears to have a bit of hound in her. She would benefit from
training since it does not appear that she has had any. The shelter is
estimating that Ziva is about 4 years old. She is currently at the
Madera County Animal Shelter and would like to get out of jail as soon
as possible. Her impound number is 3934. The Shelter's number is 559-
675-7891 but you can also contact her previous foster parents at
559-658-6316 for more information on her. Her adoption fee is $95.00
which includes her shots, a microchip and her spay surgery.

Name: Dino
Case #: A08309403
Gender: Neutered Male
Age: 1
Primary Breed: Border Collie
Secondary Breed: Mix
Color: Black & White
Adoption Fee: $75.00
Dino is a
beautiful, energetic and happy young Border Collie mix who was brought to
Butte Humane Society as a stray in August of 2009. He is playful and
affectionate and will roll over on his back to get a belly rub. He enjoys
being around people and is so excited to get out of his kennel and go for
walks! Dino probably has not recieved any training or had much experience
with other dogs. He pulls on the leash and does not respond to basic
commands, but he is still young and very eager to learn. With other dogs,
Dino is a little rude and would prefer to go to a home where he would be the
only dog. Due to his energy level and jumping up, we recommend that he go to
a family with children over the age of three. He would make an excellent
match for a physically active home that can provide him with the exercise
and attention he so craves. Adoption $75

Name: Hannah
Case #: A06413264r
Gender: Spayed Female
Age: 4
Primary Breed: Border Collie
Secondary Breed: Greyhound
Color: Black & White
Adoption Fee: $75.00
Hannah’s
profile was written by her foster mom with whom she is currently staying.
Approved adopters will be able to visit with Hannah:
The day that Hannah was returned to the shelter I was alone in the lobby.
Her owners were completely beside themselves and crying. They told me they
didn’t know how to help Hannah anymore. They loved her but they felt that
she wasn’t in the best place she could be. I volunteered to take her home
and foster her. Before I had a chance to take her, she damaged one of her
back legs badly while trying to escape her kennel. Hannah does not like
being confined, she feels unsafe and anxious when she is without people. We
hoped that the muscle she tore would heal while she was at my house. Over
the next two months my co-workers, roommates, and myself worked on Hannah’s
many quirks. She paces when she panics, has small issues with dogs, and many
fears pertaining to loud noise. We had a lot of success and Hannah grew to
be a staff favorite as she was in the lobby with us every day.
When I took Hannah to her third visit to the vet he gave us two options;
corrective surgery or amputation. The surgery wasn’t going to very effective
so Hannah had her back right leg amputated. I am proud to say that she
recovered beautifully from the amputation. It seemed the dead weight that
was unattached from her body lifted her spirit higher than we’d ever seen.
Soon after she had her stitches removed she made her first canine friend. My
roommate’s amazing chocolate lab, that loves a tennis ball almost as much as
wagging her tail, was the perfect friend for Hannah. They love a good game
of fetch or keep away. As far as other dogs go, I would recommend that she
doesn’t live with any until you get to know her better. We did also have a
six month old foster puppy for a while that she got along with most of the
time. We can introduce your dog though and see how it goes. Calm, people
oriented dogs seem to be the best bet with Hannah.
Hannah still has a fear of loud noises (and always will) but we have found
that she will relax after she gets to know her environment. As long as she’s
not hurting herself, sometimes it’s better to let her pace. Hannah is very
sweet and nothing brings a smile to your face like her little docked tail
wiggling in joy at the prospect of outside time. But beware if you live in
range of gun shots or loud bangs, Hannah will bolt on you. Hannah should do
fine with children above the age of eight. She could knock younger kids over
when she panics and she likes to put her paw on you when she’s happy. It
seems cute but with only one back leg the paw can pack more of a wallop than
intended. She is house trained. Hannah knows some basic commands but has a
stubborn streak in her so it’s anyone’s guess if she actually knows them
all. She’s a smart dog. I think she will pick up anything you want to teach
her. I recommend that you have experience with either border collies and/or
greyhounds. The best home for Hannah would be someone that is retired or
works at home and can be with Hannah most, if not all, of the time. She is
an excellent car companion and would travel well if you wanted to take her
on vacation with you. Hannah also has a great respect for our feline friends
and frankly is a little scared of them. She will be fine with any cats.
Hannah is a very special dog who needs a really special person to love her.
She needs a relaxed, understanding place to call home. She will test your
patience and incur many prime opportunities for a hair loss commercial but
at the end of the day, she is so worth it. Adoption- $75
