We have an adorable Border Collie Mix dog (about a year and a half, according to the vet) that we got from a shelter five months ago. We’ve gone to obedience class, and she’s very smart and responsive to commands. We’re very active, so she gets walks and runs regularly and trips to the dog park every weekend.

The problem is: she loves to jump and run and has recently learned how to jump our fence. We live in Land Park, so she’s been found on Freeport, Riverside, Broadway, etc. which means it’s only a matter of time before she gets hit by a car. We could modify our fence, but we think the problem may be that she needs a larger yard, another dog to run with and/or more freedom than we can offer, so we feel obligated to try to find that for her, as much as it breaks our hearts.

We’ve contacted the shelter we got her from and they are willing to take her back, but our concern is that she might be euthanized before finding a good home, especially with all the budget cuts.

At the dog park, she takes off like a Greyhound (which we think she have in her mix, along with maybe Lab and/or Whippet) and runs the entire time, from one side of the park to the other at top speed. We walk her every day, but she’s kenneled during the daytime because we both work, and we feel she may benefit from even more exercise.

She’s an excellent, friendly, loving, extremely smart dog who is great with adults, kids and other dogs (we don’t have a cat, but she seems very curious about them when we walk). She sleeps all night in her crate, which she doesn't seem to mind (we think the previous owners crate-trained her), she’s spayed, and all her shots, flea and heartworm medicines are up to date.

If we can make sure she’s going to a good home with the space and activity she needs, she’ll be free with all her accoutrements (collars, leash, food, toys, treats, bed, etc.) with no “rehoming fee.” Our only concern is that she finds a new family who can provide for her needs.

If you want a dog who will love you to pieces and have room for her to run (with a secure yard), please contact us via email karen-tina@comcast.net
and we can arrange for a meeting.

My name is Sukhi, I am a Special Needs dog because I have epilepsy, which is controlled by medication.  My name means Happy Spirit,  and that  describes me very well. I came to rescue because my former owner is ill.
I am  spayed, vetted, two years old, and hoping for a home where I can provide companionship and enjoy consistency and stability.

I am a dainty 30 pounds.  I walk well on lead, have had basic obedience training,  behave nicely in the house, and I travel well in the RV and car.  I am used to other dogs, and play well with them.

I am affectionate, sweet natured and biddable,  but also attentive to threats;  I can assert myself if there is need to be a watchdog.
I love to cuddle and I love to work:  I am very smart, intuitive,  and so happy to learn new tricks and games!  I need physical exercise and mental challenges in a calm and loving home.   Am I your dog?  For more information, please, email Garril at

I need to find a home for our 4 yr old purebred Border Collie Jack. We can't keep him due to a move.  Jack is shy at first but after you get to know him he is your dog for life.  He loves to go for walks and would be best in a home without any other dogs.  He loves attention and being a part of the family.

This is our dog Sarah. She was 6 years old on January 17th. Our vet thinks she is a mix with an Akita. We adopted her from an elderly couple. She spent her first 4 years in a backyard on a chain. She now lives in the country on 5 acres.

She  was never socialized with other dogs. We have found that she does not tolerate other female dogs. It has always resulted in a scuffle, with one small dog taking a lot of damage to it's body. She has never had a problem with any male dogs and routinely plays with 2 dogs from the neighborhood.

Sarah does very well with our family. She loves when we come home greeting us enthusiastically. She sleeps at the foot of our bed every night. Our 8 year old now roams our entire property with reckless abandon because he feels very safe with her at his side. She is very protective, standing at the door of our house barking loudly when ever there is a noise outside.

She starts smiling and jumping up and down as soon as she sees the leash or when we  say "wanna go for a ride?" in the car.

We have decided to try to find her a new home for the following reasons:

1. Her need to dominate all female dogs.

2. She occasionally growls while walking away from our 3 year old son when he jumps on her or pulls her tail.

3. She has always been very "Border Collie-like" with our 3 goats. She got into the pen on a couple of occasions in the past and chased them into a cluster, totally wearing them out. But last weekend  she latched onto the slowest ones ear and did not let go. The goat's ear had a lot of damage.

We feel that her ideal home would be with a family on acreage with no small animals or very young children.

Name:  Denzel - Male, 3 yrs old, neutered, licensed and all current shots.  Weighs 35 pounds. Took him to my vet..vet said he looked good and was healthy.  Not sure what he is mixed with...but he surely has the typical Border Collie busy personality and nips at ankles.

Personality:  Gets along well and wants to play with all dogs. Loves people.  Have seen absolutely no sign of aggression. Walks well on the leash until distracted by other animals.  Very busy.....tends to nip when playing.  Very smart.  Easily trained him to retrieve a ball and drop it when he returns.  Totally house trained.  1st day I brought him home  (9/5/08) he hiked his leg...caught him in the act and he hasn't done that in the house since.  Loves his crate at night and will go in automatically.  Jumps over the couches and runs through the house even after walking him.

Reason for needing a new home
Was laid off my job and thought it would be a good time to bring a new dog home to spend time with him.  Had a border collie for 15 years that passed away in November.  She was busy too but I raised her from 5 weeks old.  Saw him at the shelter....reminded me of my other Border Collie.......let my heart make a decision rather than my head.

Spent 1 1/2 hours letting him meet and greet my 10 pound 5 year old Papillion.  They seemed to get long.. she appeared to be the boss.  However, he gets a little rough with her at times.  I left them for several hours alone in my garage and my neighbor heard my papillion yelping.  I feel 100% positive that Denzel would not mean to hurt her but could hurt her by being too rough.   I live in a condo and walk Denzel....but he really has no where to run and work out his energy.  I feel he really needs a home where he can run.  I start a new job tomorrow and it will be an 12 hour day.  He can't stay in a crate that long.  When left alone for 4 hours...he tried to dig a hole to escape.  He couldn't get through....but my little dog almost did.  She is a runner and probably wouldn't come back.

Here's a picture of our female dog Layla.  She's a Border Collie mix and approximately 6 years old.  She spayed about 5 years ago and she also has a "Home Again" microchip.

She is good with people and children as well as other dogs and is house broken.  She needs a home with a lot of land since she barks and needs plenty of exercise.   For more information, please email Joanne.Lewis@gusd.k12.ca.us

Chynna is the 2nd dog we’ve rescued, and she’s been with us for about a yr now.  We are interested in finding her a good home ,although our intention was to keep her indefinitely.  We love her but our lab is just getting to old to have her herding him around.  She has been an indoor and only dog the yrs prior to coming to us, has had all her shots recently from Bradshaw Vet, is micro-chipped, and is very well trained. She is very gentle in the house and leaves our furniture alone.  I guess it helps that she usually has a bone of some kind (as do our other two dogs). Six months of the yr she sleeps on a dog bed at night in our bedroom and is very good at waiting until we wake up to go out.  We call her Chynna as did the prior owner.  She is very healthy and we only give her dog food.

I rescued a border collie from the pound about a month and a half ago, in an effort to save her from being
euthanized. She was abused and severely neglected and I have been nursing her back to health. I was hoping to make
her my companion, we have been running together in the mornings, playing frisbee, and taking agility classes; the
problem is that I also have to work full time and so she is by herself for 8 hours a day, so I also hired a dog
walker to come and exercise her mid-day for me, but it seems that that is still not enough.

Fly is a 3 year old spayed female. She's absolutely adorable. She hates cats, gets along with other dogs, but is sometimes
protective of her two favorite toys. I think she would ideally be best if placed on a ranch where she would be a
working dog with a master. Multiple people make her nervous, she definitely would not make a good family dog.
She has SO much personality and is way too smart for her own good. She catches on so quickly to whatever you are
teaching her. She thinks she's a lap dog sometimes as she likes to sleep on the bed and sit on the couch with me. :)
She is AWESOME on a leash and GREAT in the car!

Pictured above are Rocky & Bullwinkle, my mixed breed pound dogs, who have gotten into trouble for chasing, barking at, and herding my neighbors.  These dogs are very intelligent and loving, but unfortunately were adopted by me, a person not well enough informed as to the keeping of these breeds.  I have since read online that their supposedly dangerous behaviors are normal, instinctive, and useful behaviors, and not dangerous when properly controlled.  Since I must have them off the property by July 12th, I hope someone can adopt them.  They are in Stockton, CA.

This is Marco, a handsome 3 ½ year old border collie mix whom we found at a rescue shelter a few years ago. He is friendly, smart, energetic, and LOVES people and other critters (especially dogs). He likes to have a buddy, and spends most of his days with his gal pal in her yard. He appreciates lots of mental stimulation and exercise.  He very curious, and every month or so, Marco figures out how to sneak out the house or yard for a grand adventure. One day he was actually driven back to our house by a mail person (he jumped into the truck during her lunch break and actually befriended her); on another day he found his way to the recreation center where he went for a swim before being "rescued" by the life guards.  The trouble is, Marco is not at all savvy with cars and we fear for his life every time he manages to escape (we live in a rather dense suburb).  Bottom line is that Marco needs a bigger space to roam and play then our small yard -perhaps a farm or ranch with other critters to hang out with.  For more information, please contact Sue (510) 233-1603

I have a Border Collie/Lab Mix, 10 months old, that my daughter brought home thinking we could offer it a good home.  We live in employer housing, and are allowed only one dog, which we already have, who is a border collie mix himself.  The previous owner of Oreo has lost his home due to Foreclosure, and can't take him back, due to moving to a place where he is allowed no pets, which is how we acquired him.  Oreo is neutered and has had all of his shots so far, and some puppy training from a professional trainer, which we have all the paperwork for.  Some traits of Oreo are:  -He tends to nip at other dogs, (border collie trait), but especially when play or food is involved, but never extreme aggressive behavior.  - He loves to sleep on your bed, right on top of your feet.  - He LOVES his walks!! And going to dog parks.  - Not a big fetch 'fan', but Loves tug-o-war.  - Loves water  - Likes cats.....a little too much...( he chases them, thinking they are play buddies.)  -not very good off leash.
Even though he has some behavior troubles, and needs to work on his manners, I know that with proper training, and a loving family (preferably a home with other border collies, as companions, because he loves to be with other dogs), he will be a well behaved, and wonderfully amazing dog.

Here are some additional traits:

- Likes to jump up on people

- good with kids, but must be supervised (on leash) because he can easily knock down younger kids

- Loves walks, and uses the 'Gentle Lead' head harness. (acts like a gentleman with it on) without it, he will take YOU for a walk!

- Very good with other dogs, just has a nipping issue

- Loves soccer balls, and basketballs

- Loves to be off leash, but you'll spend about 1/2 an hour trying to catch him so you can put the leash back on him.

- gives 'kisses'

- not too sure when his time of day to eat is. But has been eating closer to the afternoon/evening.

- Has separation anxiety. Whines/barks when you leave him by himself.

- Very 'outspoken'.  For more information, please contact Elke cell #: (707) 303-6439

Keeley is 3 1/2 yo spayed female Border Collie mix. She’s high energy, smart ,loving and loyal. She’s healthy and vet and vacc current. Keeley’s been to dog school and dog camp and park and is housetrained and car savvy. She’ll wait patiently at home but will demand lots of exercise upon your arrival. She’s been on many outings and adventures, even owns her own backpack. Unfortunately, our living situation has changed and we can no longer give our girl what she needs. Typically BC, this girl needs firm boundaries and lots of mental exercise. We recently started her on Frisbee and she’s catching on. We currently live with 2 cats and there is some chasing at times but our commands and training have kept everyone in check. Keeley would do best as the only dog or in a big pack. Ideally, she’d love a ranch with a job or an active person to take her many new places.

We have a male 21 month neutered border collie (Shiloh) that is micro-chipped, fully inoculated and
licensed in Placer County. He is housebroken, non-destructive and an outstanding Frisbee dog.  He
obeys basic commands and is good walking off leash.  The only problem is that he has an issue
with other unfamiliar dogs, particularly when on a leash walk. We have worked extensively to minimize his
aggression towards other dogs to no avail.  At this point we have decided to find another good home for
Shiloh.  For more information, please email robiwest@yahoo.com.

My dog's name is Buddy.  He is almost 2 years old.  Buddy is a Border Collie mixed with Labrador Retriever.  We adopted him as a puppy.  We also have a Shih-tzu and a husky-collie mix, whom he loves to play with.  Buddy has the mentality of a small dog, which causes him to try to sleep on the couch, beds, and even our laps!!!  When I got him, my mom did daycare in our home, so he has been exposed to small children from a young age.  He is housetrained.  He likes to go camping and playing in the water.  His favorite type of toy is a rope.  He would be better with a family with children, and he needs a lot of attention, or he gets bored, as is customary for Border Collies.  I would like to find a home for him as soon as possible.   I am looking for a new home for my dog, because our family has recently decided to move into a rental home.  We have looked for homes that allow pets, however he LOVES to run and play and, unfortunately, we cannot find one to meet both our needs and his.  You can contact me, Nicole at 661)251-8335.  This is my home number and I am usually available there between 12:30 and 7:00 on most days.  If you cannot reach me here you can contact me on my cell phone at 661)803-8017.  If I do not answer here, please feel free to leave a message for me.  My e-mail address is prty_in_pnk@sbcglobal.net.

Hi!!  My name is Pepper and as you can see I was named because of my coat.  I am 1.5 years old and am a male Border Collie/Queensland Heeler mix.  I live with another dog and my mom is concerned because I can’t stop nipping at her heels and back.  I don’t mean any harm but because my mom is away all day I don’t have anything better to do with my time.  I am very lovable, loyal, and dedicated.  I bark at passersby but only to protect my mom’s house.  I sleep in my crate at night because that is where I am most comfortable. I can sit and lay down just with a move of my mom’s hand.  I am still working on stay but she hasn’t had the time to work with me on that one.  I went through obedience school and got an A+ but could use a brush up on my skills.  I am super smart and very eager to learn new stuff.  I love to fetch balls, go to the beach, and drive in the car.  I am really sad to say goodbye to my girlfriend Sierra (lab) and my mom but I think it would be better if I had a home where I could have jobs, lots of attention, some agility training and most of all some room to run.  I also think it might be better if I was the only dog around so that I am not tempted to nip at anymore heels.  Oh and one more thing—I am fixed, am current on all of my shots and I go to Holly Street Pet Hospital in San Carlos.

Please call my mom at (650) 218-5168 if you think we would be a good match.  I will look forward to meeting you.

Please check out the shelter dogs that urgently need new homes.
