Name: Booker
Case #: A09606936
Gender: Neutered Male
Age: 1
Primary Breed: Border Collie
Color: Black & White
Adoption Fee: $75.00
Booker is a large purebred border collie at about seventy pounds. He came to the shelter as a stray in February 2010 and no one came for him. Booker is only about a year old and definitely acts like a puppy. Booker is a classic border collie in temperament and in energy level. He is extremely people social and loves to play… a lot. Play is the first word Booker thinks of when he wakes up and the last word he thinks of before he goes to sleep at night. Booker is super outgoing and loves to give and receive affection. When Booker first came to the shelter, I was standing beside him doing some paperwork and he nudged my hand several times so I would pet him. He didn’t even know me, but it wasn’t a problem, as long as I was petting him, he was happy. Booker is too active and big for a home with kids that are under the age of eight. He doesn’t always like to give up his toys, so he needs to live with older kids that can handle him. Booker does very well with other dogs and would be great with dogs that can tolerate his rough play style. Booker is still very, very young, so training will come in very handy. Since he’s a smart dog, his new family will need to stay one step ahead of him, so his intelligence doesn’t get him into trouble. Booker met our office cat and wanted to chase him, so he cannot live in a home with any cats. Booker would be a perfect addition to a home that is used to herding breeds and their intelligence and energy levels. Adoption- $75

Luca
Luca is a 1-year-old, 50 pound black and white Border Collie mix and
resembles a small German Shepherd. He is a very happy, exuberant young guy
-- just brimming with life and love. LUCA has LOTS of energy and is very
active, typical of border collies. He calms down well inside the house after
getting enough exercise. He is also VERY dog social and gets along with
every dog he meets, which is not typical of many border collies. He would
love to have a playful dog in his new home. LUCA loves to go on off-leash
hikes in the hills, at the beach, or anywhere. He does need some work on his
re-call, but otherwise he is well behaved. He is obviously very smart and
would thrive on any type of training or agility work. For more
information please call 510-708-8258 or email
Pam.

JAKE NEEDS A HOME!
Jake
is a Border Collie looking for a buddy. He is a young 8 year old, who is neutered, heartwormnegative, and all shots up to date. He is currently being fostered at Herding 4 Ewe in Vacaville, California.
His owner passed away last year and the family had no place for him. He is a very sweet boy who
desperately wants to be someone’s companion. He is crate trained, good in a kennel, but has never been in
a house.
Jake is eager to learn and willing to please, so house training should not be a problem.Since being fostered,
Jake has learned basic manners. He was never abused but had little or notraining prior to coming to Herding 4 Ewe. He still has a lot of life in him and needs his own person to
love. If you know of anyone who would be willing to give this happy boy the home he deserves
pleasecontact Debbie at Herding4u@aol.com
Sam is a Border Collie/Corgi (we are guessing) that we
found on the
side of the road. He is an awesome dog! We love him and wish we could keep
him but he doesn't do well around our horses. He
is house broken and trained...but doesn't do well off leash (he forgets to
listen). He is neutered,
vaccinated and he is ready for a new home. He
loves kids, cats, other dogs...this dog is what every family wants in a
dog...and he just wants a family to call his own.

Name: Dino
Case #: A08309403
Gender: Neutered Male
Age: 1
Primary Breed: Border Collie
Secondary Breed: Mix
Color: Black & White
Adoption Fee: $75.00
Dino is a beautiful, energetic and happy young Border Collie mix who was brought to Butte Humane Society as a stray in August of 2009. He is playful and affectionate and will roll over on his back to get a belly rub. He enjoys being around people and is so excited to get out of his kennel and go for walks! Dino probably has not recieved any training or had much experience with other dogs. He pulls on the leash and does not respond to basic commands, but he is still young and very eager to learn. With other dogs, Dino is a little rude and would prefer to go to a home where he would be the only dog. Due to his energy level and jumping up, we recommend that he go to a family with children over the age of three. He would make an excellent match for a physically active home that can provide him with the exercise and attention he so craves. Adoption $75

Name: Hannah
Case #: A06413264r
Gender: Spayed Female
Age: 4
Primary Breed: Border Collie
Secondary Breed: Greyhound
Color: Black & White
Adoption Fee: $75.00
Hannah’s
profile was written by her foster mom with whom she is currently staying.
Approved adopters will be able to visit with Hannah:
The day that Hannah was returned to the shelter I was alone in the lobby.
Her owners were completely beside themselves and crying. They told me they
didn’t know how to help Hannah anymore. They loved her but they felt that
she wasn’t in the best place she could be. I volunteered to take her home
and foster her. Before I had a chance to take her, she damaged one of her
back legs badly while trying to escape her kennel. Hannah does not like
being confined, she feels unsafe and anxious when she is without people. We
hoped that the muscle she tore would heal while she was at my house. Over
the next two months my co-workers, roommates, and myself worked on Hannah’s
many quirks. She paces when she panics, has small issues with dogs, and many
fears pertaining to loud noise. We had a lot of success and Hannah grew to
be a staff favorite as she was in the lobby with us every day.
When I took Hannah to her third visit to the vet he gave us two options;
corrective surgery or amputation. The surgery wasn’t going to very effective
so Hannah had her back right leg amputated. I am proud to say that she
recovered beautifully from the amputation. It seemed the dead weight that
was unattached from her body lifted her spirit higher than we’d ever seen.
Soon after she had her stitches removed she made her first canine friend. My
roommate’s amazing chocolate lab, that loves a tennis ball almost as much as
wagging her tail, was the perfect friend for Hannah. They love a good game
of fetch or keep away. As far as other dogs go, I would recommend that she
doesn’t live with any until you get to know her better. We did also have a
six month old foster puppy for a while that she got along with most of the
time. We can introduce your dog though and see how it goes. Calm, people
oriented dogs seem to be the best bet with Hannah.
Hannah still has a fear of loud noises (and always will) but we have found
that she will relax after she gets to know her environment. As long as she’s
not hurting herself, sometimes it’s better to let her pace. Hannah is very
sweet and nothing brings a smile to your face like her little docked tail
wiggling in joy at the prospect of outside time. But beware if you live in
range of gun shots or loud bangs, Hannah will bolt on you. Hannah should do
fine with children above the age of eight. She could knock younger kids over
when she panics and she likes to put her paw on you when she’s happy. It
seems cute but with only one back leg the paw can pack more of a wallop than
intended. She is house trained. Hannah knows some basic commands but has a
stubborn streak in her so it’s anyone’s guess if she actually knows them
all. She’s a smart dog. I think she will pick up anything you want to teach
her. I recommend that you have experience with either border collies and/or
greyhounds. The best home for Hannah would be someone that is retired or
works at home and can be with Hannah most, if not all, of the time. She is
an excellent car companion and would travel well if you wanted to take her
on vacation with you. Hannah also has a great respect for our feline friends
and frankly is a little scared of them. She will be fine with any cats.
Hannah is a very special dog who needs a really special person to love her.
She needs a relaxed, understanding place to call home. She will test your
patience and incur many prime opportunities for a hair loss commercial but
at the end of the day, she is so worth it. Adoption- $75
