Django is a two-year-old neutered male, half Border Collie and half Blue Heeler. He is 22" inches tall and weighs 51 pounds.
We rescued him two years ago when he was five months old. He is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped.
Django is an incredibly sweet, loving and loyal dog who loves his humans more than anything. Like every other dog listed here, he is high energy – but we have found that just ten minutes of playing catch or a nice walk will satisfy him, and he happily rest. He is a very bright dog, learns new things quickly, is food and toy motivated and a pleasure to train.
He loves to play and is great with other dogs. In his yard, when new friends come over to play, he welcomes them exuberantly. However, he has “leash reactivity” when he sees dogs he does not know while on walks. His new owner needs to know how to deal with this activity.
We love Django dearly. We are only interested in a new home if it will better meet his needs than we can. The reason we are looking for a new home for him is that he has become jealous of our other dog . He has started to resource guard when he sees our other dog getting attention or treats that he thinks he should have instead. This is why he will be happiest if he is in a home without another dog. Also, we are older and we can’t adequately give Django the activity he needs. We are confident that if he could find a human who could keep up with him by taking him on long walks or on runs, to the beach or hiking in the mountains, or even learning agility or Treiball, he would be ecstatic.
Django is fully crate-trained (he loves his crate) and house-trained. He loves car rides. He’s great on a leash as long as you have treats to remind him where to pay attention. He’s a very quick study and wants to please.
An ideal home for Django would include:
• An experienced dog owner who understands the needs of a herding dog as well as resource guarding and leash reactivity issues.
• A home where he is the only dog, but where he can visit and play with friend dogs frequently
• Probably no cats or very small children
• A human who wants to be Django’s best friend, who is very active and can take Django for adventures
• A big yard with a good, five-foot-high fence (Django is very athletic and can jump very high)
Django is living in Aptos (Santa Cruz County)
